26 March 2024 – An official from the National Institution of Technology (NIT) Raipur said on Sunday, March 24, 2024, that the institution had inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with VividSparks, a Bengaluru-based company to establish an advanced chip research and development centre on its campus in the capital of Chhattisgarh. On March 20, the chief executive officer of Bengaluru-based VividSparks, Dr Vijay Holimath, and director of NIT Raipur, Dr NV Ramana Rao, inked an agreement, according to the official.
PTI reported that the POSIT system-based general-purpose graphics processing unit (GPGPU) advanced chip research and development centre will be called Vibram Silicon Hub. According to a statement released by an institution official, the assistant professor of NIT Raipur, Dr Sonal Yadav, will lead it.
According to the official, the POSIT number system is an alternative to the Floating Point number system that promises to provide higher accuracy and performance for high-performance applications, particularly those involving large-scale mathematical calculations.
Conclusion
Smartphones, laptops, desktop computers, servers, and other digital devices all employ GPGPU sophisticated processors. Drs. Yadav and Holimath claim that the project would not only meet India’s computing demands but also open up employment prospects by enabling the centre to sell its research and products to other nations.
