Automobile Manufacturers Are Preparing for a New Government Push for Evs

25 March 2024 – After the government unveiled a new policy, the Indian car industry is preparing to launch a number of electric vehicle models in the next few years. This is part of a renewed effort to promote environmentally friendly mobility alternatives. To meet demand across all market categories, mass-market giants, including Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Mahindra & Mahindra, and Tata Motors, are planning new model launches.

Nalinikanth Gollagunta, CEO of Mahindra & Mahindra’s automotive division, said that the business would launch five new battery-electric cars in the next years, beginning in January 2025. “We expect 20-30% of our portfolio to be electric by 2027,” he said.

Rahul Bharti, executive officer of corporate affairs at Maruti Suzuki India, said that the carmaker is seriously investing in electric vehicles. “We will start production of a high-spec EV designed-fresh as an EV with 550 km range in FY24-25 and will have about six EV models in the next 7-8 years,” he said. Over ten years, Hyundai intends to spend over Rs 26,000 crore in Tamil Nadu.

Conclusion

High-end automakers are likewise preparing to improve their electric vehicle range. “We are invested in the market and have an aggressive product strategy with more than 12 new products planned for debut in 2024,” a spokeswoman for Merc India said.
