Booknerds – The digital library where love for reading is taken care of

Booknerds

Since childhood, our elders used to scold us for not reading newspapers or anything knowledgeable other than the study material. Sometimes because of the undue pressure, we sit with books but feel lazy or sleepy.

It is because we didn’t realise the importance of reading. Now, after being a part of this societal hurdle every day, we think to have some relaxation, some peace of mind, some words to uplift our moods, some positive thoughts to keep us positively diverted, to give us new perspectives, a book is the saviour for all this. Recently, people have started accepting the fact that books can be our good friends.

The basic ‘read and write’ adaptability of a human being should encourage us to constantly perceive the notions that we don’t know whether they exist or not, to read about the dark side of the world, and to understand the world’s problems deeply.

People have started giving book recommendations, websites have their personalised collections. But what if we talk about a reading community, a platform where authors and readers can interact with each other, authors can promote their new writings, and readers can get first-hand access to quality, is it possible? Yes, it is. Booknerds is one such platform.

The start of this reading cult!

Booknerds is a scholastic startup founded by husband and wife which was launched on 22nd December, 2016 with the idea to connect book admirers in India and beyond. It enables us to:

    1. Discuss favourite books with other co-readers, friends, or reading experts to get different perspectives on the same book, new suggestions for different genres to read, and to understand the different reading aspects.
    2. Booknerds has live audio notebooks as well which allows the reader to listen to some of their favourite options from the book, listen to individual feedback about the book, and even read a book together with distraction-free audio calls.
    3. There is a feature of this venture where the readers can interact with the author personally, ask questions related to a particular book, and get expert insights into the whole publishing process, their journey, author’s upcoming events, etc.
    4. As we all have heard about Instagram memes and how widely they are famous, readers can creatively design memes related to books they like or dislike and generate friendly conversations. Sharing a book meme is a fun way to keep it lively by Booknerds.
    5. It inculcates freedom of expression by disliking the content of a book openly, putting harsh arguments in front. They have raised such a community on how to take a difference of opinion.

Origin of the Booknerds Pioneers

Rohan Raj, the book podcaster and co-founder of Booknerds, observed the changing landscape of literary events. He foresighted that there is a need to have ethnic book clubs, community, and events around that can facilitate proper well-being. He thought that if the preferences of readers are changing day by day then the methods to convert book reading into an artistic skill set that can enhance engagement.

That’s how Booknerds came to light. It’s been 8 years since this successful venture and Rohan has interviewed renowned book authors. He has been featured in the Times of India, The Statesman, National Herald, and many more newspapers.

Neha Raj is a Public Relations Specialist, Blogger, Content Marketer, and Strategist. She has worked in the corporate world for 2 years as a Senior Associate at Wipro Ltd. She decided not to continue in this rat race and pursued her passion for reading.

Along with her husband Rohan Raj, she became the management pillar for Booknerds and is distinctively raising the success standards of this venture. She suggests book promotion strategies for upcoming or established authors. She recently spoke at the Kunzum Bookselling Reimagined Conference, 2023.

The bookish version of achieving goals

There are a lot of books that either got banned or stopped from being published further because they proved controversial to someone in some way. Booknerds is that key that gives you access to unlock such reading stuff which will give us a chance to build an honest opinion of our own and express the concern about freedom to read and write.

It also provides us with an incredible opportunity to be a book recommender where readers can suggest some of their favourites, a holistic genre, or a favourite author’s work. Booknerds facilitate exclusive writing and reading workshops to make a strong grasp of literature and its utility.
