25th April 2024 – The American healthcare system is not designed to treat a child whose parents could use a doctor but whose child has a rash or fever at two in the morning who may not be ill enough to visit the ER.
Herein lies the role of Summer Health. The New York-based firm provides national, round-the-clock, message-based healthcare access in 15 minutes via its $11.65 million Series a funding round, which it announced last week.
According to co-founder and CEO Ellen DaSilva, “Our goal was to simplify access to care drastically,” Forbes said. “We aimed to significantly simplify the process of obtaining care for your children during an emergency.”Both DaSilva and the investors who co-led the round, Alyssa Jaffee of 7wire Ventures and Deena Shakir of Lux Capital, are mothers of three children. They both often utilize Summer Health. The startup’s board will now include Jaffee, Shakir, and two more investors, Alfred Lin of Sequoia Capital and Chelsea Clinton of Metrodora Ventures. To date, Summer Health has raised around $19 million.
Conclusion
According to DaSilva, the business is starting to provide specialized care in addition to urgent care, including lactation consultants, sleep specialists, dietitians, and child behavior experts. Thousands of families using Summer Health have made over 30,000 visits.
