4 April 2024 – As India gears up for the 2024 general elections, Elon Musk’s social media platform, X, unveils its Community Notes feature in the country. This innovative initiative aims to empower users to contribute context to potentially misleading content, reinforcing transparency and accuracy during critical events like elections.
X’s Community Notes feature allows users to collaboratively fact-check posts by adding informative notes. Musk announced the activation of this feature in India, welcoming Indian contributors to participate in the initiative. The platform emphasizes the diversity of perspectives among contributors and aims to foster a well-informed global community.
With contributors already onboard from India and plans for further expansion, X’s Community Notes initiative is a global effort, with contributors from 69 countries. The platform encourages users to collaborate in adding context to posts, promoting transparency and combatting misinformation.
Users can leave notes on posts, and those receiving positive ratings from contributors with differing viewpoints will be publicly displayed. However, X will not label, remove, or address posts with Community Notes unless they violate platform rules.
