11th June 2024- The government announced on Monday that initiatives taken have led to an increase in startup entrepreneurship among youth from SC/ST communities. With an allocation of Rs 80 crore, 38 startups by SC/ST youths have received investments totaling Rs 55.20 crore.
Since taking office in May 2021, the government has been actively promoting startup organizations, resulting in the establishment of 6,384 startups. This marks a significant rise from the 2,032 startups before May 2021, bringing the total to 8,416. Additionally, the number of women-led startups has increased from 966 in 2021 to 3,163 in 2024.
Introduced during 2022-23, the SC/ST startup fund has benefited 38 startups over the past two financial years, with entrepreneurs from various cities including Chennai, Salem, Kanniyakumari, Madurai, Tiruchy, Coimbatore, Erode, and Nilgiris availing of the scheme.
These startups span across diverse sectors such as agricultural engineering, artificial intelligence, and food processing. Notably, Tribal Green Fuel, managed by tribal communities, has provided employment opportunities in the Thalavadi forest area of Erode district.
