Nandambakkam, Chennai's Fintech City, Will Probably Be The State's First Infrastructure To House A District Cooling System

12 March 2024 – The District Cooling System (DCS), a centralized source that uses pipes to cool the whole structure, is probably going to be installed for the first time in a building in Tamil Nadu, at Fintech City in Nandambakkam. Sandeep Nanduri, Managing Director of Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation, revealed this to TNIE. Tamil Nadu devised a strategy to test the technology at the Fintech City in Nandambakkam after the DCS was successfully deployed in the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City), the nation’s first internationally benchmarked International finance service hub.

TRB Rajaa, the Industries Minister and a member of the State Planning Commission, proposed this idea. The state hopes to save 20% on its electricity costs by using this innovative cooling technique. A 56-acre plot of land next to the Chennai Trade Centre is being constructed as Phase I of the Fintech City project. Basic infrastructure development is already underway and should be finished by June of this year. According to Nanduri, “The Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) has invited consultants to conduct a Techno-Economic Viability Study and prepare the tender document for appointing a district cooling developer to prepare the project.”

Conclusion

In the meanwhile, two plots have already been put up for e-auction, and the infrastructure work is almost finished. The constructed plots will be leased for 99 years to builders, financial institutions, and associated businesses.
