Scaler, an Edtech Firm, Fires 150 Employees from Its Marketing and Sales Departments

11 April 2024 – According to reports, the education technology firm Scaler, which assists computer professionals and college students in improving their skills, has cut off 150 workers from its marketing and sales departments. Scaler acknowledged the change and said it was a component of a plan for sustainable long-term growth. It did not, however, specify the number of employees impacted.

According to the source, the Bengaluru-based firm employs 1,400 people total, including interns, contractual workers, and part-timers.  “We’ve always been committed to delivering the best learning experience and outcomes for our learners, so we’ve designed a new way of working to be able to achieve sustainable growth,” cofounder Abhimanyu Saxena told ET.

“We had to part ways with several functions/roles in the organisation as part of this restructure, especially in marketing and sales.” The company’s total costs climbed by 2.7 times to Rs 654.6 crore in the year that ended in March 2023, mostly due to staff expenses of Rs 322.07 crore.

Conclusion

In spite of this, it recorded a 4.8-fold growth in annual operating income to Rs 316.7 crore during that time, even though it did not obtain any outside funding.
