3 April 2024 – Lying on a resume can have serious consequences, as demonstrated by a recent incident involving a candidate from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur. Startup founder Angad Daryani called out the candidate for fabricating skills on his resume during the interview process, shedding light on the issue of integrity in hiring practices.
During the job interview at Daryani’s startup, the IIT Kharagpur candidate boasted about having multiple offers based on skills listed on his resume. However, it became evident that the candidate was unfamiliar with 95% of the claimed expertise. Expressing his frustration on social media platform X, Daryani questioned the integrity of candidates and the quality of education provided by IITs.
Emphasizing the significance of integrity over technical prowess, Daryani highlighted the importance of trustworthiness in the workplace. He shared past experiences, including instances where IIT graduates misrepresented their skills or left the company shortly after joining for better opportunities elsewhere.
