25 March 2024 – A Bengaluru resident recently took to Reddit to express frustration over what she perceived as unfair pricing practices by Swiggy, a popular food delivery platform. The woman shared screenshots comparing the bills of a Swiggy One member and a non-member, both placing the same order from the same restaurant to the same delivery location.
Surprisingly, despite Swiggy One promising better benefits, the member ended up paying more for the order compared to the non-member. The screenshot revealed that the Swiggy One member was charged Rs 309, while the non-member, using a discount coupon, paid only Rs 241 for the identical order.
Expressing her disappointment, the Reddit user cautioned others against subscribing to Swiggy One, labelling it as a “high-class digital scam” that unfairly disadvantages loyal customers who pay monthly fees for the service.
While some Reddit users echoed her sentiments, others speculated that the non-member may have utilized a custom discount code not available to Swiggy One members. However, the original poster clarified that both screenshots belonged to different customers, and the discount offered to the non-member was not exclusively for new users.
Swiggy One is a premium subscription program promising benefits such as waived delivery charges, exclusive restaurant discounts, and no surge pricing. However, this incident has sparked debate about the transparency and fairness of its pricing policies.
