27 March 2024 – Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. (TPEM) has partnered with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (HPCL) to deploy electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at HPCL fuel pumps nationwide. With a focus on enhancing accessibility and convenience, the initiative aims to accelerate the adoption of EVs across India.
The collaboration between TPEM and HPCL involves the installation of EV charging infrastructure at HPCL petrol pumps, with an initial target of deploying 5,000 chargers by December 2024. Leveraging HPCL’s extensive network of 21,500 petrol pumps, the partnership aims to gather insights on charger usage to enhance customer satisfaction.
TPEM will utilize driving data from over 1.2 lakh Tata EVs to identify optimal charger locations, ensuring strategic placement for maximum convenience. With a dominant 68% market share in India’s electric car segment, TPEM offers a diverse portfolio of EV models, including the Punch EV, Tiago EV, Tigor EV, and Nexon EV.
While residential and office charging remains prevalent, the availability of public charging infrastructure is vital for widespread EV adoption. To streamline the charging experience, TPEM and HPCL are exploring the introduction of a co-branded RFID payment system, enhancing convenience for EV users.
Tata Motors’ recent inauguration of an EV-exclusive showroom in Gurugram underscores its commitment to promoting sustainable mobility. HPCL, on the other hand, has already established 3,050 EV charging stations nationwide, including battery swapping facilities.
