22 April 2024 – Meri Mitti, a social impact startup founded by 14-year-old Ahan Dasgupta, has been recognized for the first time by Startup India and the Department for Promotion of Industry & Internal Trade (Government of India).
In addition to applauding the Dubai teen’s vision, this acknowledgment opens up a host of benefits, such as the ability to apply for much-desired government assistance. Meri Mitti disrupts an oppressive system that relies on intermediaries by enabling artisans to sell their goods directly to customers worldwide through its innovative platform. This would guarantee that artisans receive all proceeds from the sale of their products and enable customers to purchase goods at a reasonable price. The Meri Mitti app, which is now in beta testing, has the potential to change the ethical business scene completely.
Ahan began working on Meri Mitti when he was just twelve years old. The business is currently registered as a non-profit in Singapore and India, demonstrating the young founder’s dedication to bringing about significant change worldwide.
Conclusion
“Getting acknowledged is fantastic, especially from the government,” Ahan said. And this is only the start. I hope Meri Mitti continues to make significant progress. Ahan, a Singaporean, is in Year 10 at Dubai International Academy (Emirates Hills). At the age of six, he relocated to Dubai, which further broadened his outlook on the world and stoked his enthusiasm for sustainability and social enterprise.
