With Over 100 Crore Entries, MHA's Biggest Face Data Set is Used to Monitor "Illegal Activities."

27 March 2024 – According to authorities, with over 100 crore entries in the National Intelligence Grid (NATGRID), the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has advanced significantly in its surveillance of “illegal activities.”

According to the authorities, face data from almost 80% of Indians would be useful in locating and apprehending offenders. They said that it would also assist law enforcement in taking tough measures against repeat offenders during the election. The authorities claim that even if people were wearing masks during the COVID-19 outbreak, their data was nonetheless recorded in the facial records. It should be mentioned that the NATGRID technology can “efficiently access and match” disguised face data in a matter of minutes.


Conclusion

The officials stated that the Center has long been leading the development of a comprehensive national database aimed at monitoring illicit activities such as terror financing, the circulation of counterfeit currency, bomb threats, and the illegal smuggling of arms. They noted that the data was sourced from various airport operating departments.
