25th April 2024 – Zomato, the massive food delivery company, is testing a priority delivery option that costs more for quick delivery in certain areas. Zomato is reportedly testing this functionality in certain cities, including Bengaluru and Mumbai, according to a Moneycontrol story.
Customers may pay a higher premium for expedited delivery timeframes using this service. For example, a user in Bengaluru was given the option to pay ₹29 more to have an item delivered in 16–21 minutes as opposed to the standard 21 minutes.
Other cities like Delhi-NCR and Kolkata do not yet have access to the service, indicating a staggered deployment. Zomato Gold customers are likewise liable for the additional charge. Regarding this development, the firm has not yet released an official comment. Following its recent decision to raise its platform charge to 5 per order, Zomato has decided to test a priority delivery function.
Conclusion
With Zomato processing between two and three million orders a day, this fee increase, which impacts large cities like the National Capital Region, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Lucknow, may increase the company’s quarterly profits. Prior to this, on January 1, the firm increased the platform charge from ₹2 to ₹3, and then again on January 1.
