09th May 2024 – Zomato introduced a fresh initiative, ‘Weather Union’, on Wednesday. This initiative offers hyperlocal real-time weather updates including temperature, humidity, wind speed, and rainfall. Presently accessible in 45 cities, it will soon expand to other Indian cities.
More than 650 solar-powered weather stations contribute to the real-time data collection. These stations, resembling old-timey lamp posts, are stationed at various Zomato employees’ premises. Additionally, anyone can volunteer to host these weather stations through the website.
CEO Deepinder Goyal expressed optimism about the initiative’s potential collaborations with institutions like CAS – IIT Delhi. He emphasized that Weather Union’s API access is open to all institutions and companies, aiming for public welfare.
While Zomato offers the API access for free, it cautions about potential server costs for enterprises. The company might introduce charges for continued API usage.
The Weather Union infrastructure has diverse applications, benefitting sectors such as ride-hailing, e-commerce, logistics, and real estate. Moreover, Zomato continues to experiment with various product features.
One such experiment involves last-mile delivery services for office-goers, aiming to streamline deliveries within corporate parks and save time for both riders and employees. Additionally, Zomato announced an all-electric fleet catering to large gatherings, aligning with eco-friendly initiatives.
Conclusion
Zomato’s Weather Union initiative aims to revolutionize real-time weather data accessibility for businesses and institutions, fostering productivity and efficiency across various sectors.
