Lawsuit Alleges Amazon's Market Power Led to Startup Shutdown

28 March 2024 – Amazon said on Wednesday that it is investing an additional $2.75 billion in Anthropic, increasing its total capital contributions to $4 billion in the artificial intelligence business. In San Francisco-based Anthropic, a competitor of ChatGPT manufacturer OpenAI, Amazon will continue to have a minority position.

According to Swami Sivasivasubramanian, vice president of data and AI at AWS, Amazon’s cloud computing subsidiary, “generative AI is poised to be the most transformational technology of our time. We believe our strategic collaboration with Anthropic will further improve our customers’ experiences, and we look forward to what’s next.”In September, the IT giant located in Seattle invested $1.25 billion in Anthropic, indicating at the time that it intended to spend up to $4 billion.

The two businesses are working together to create foundation models, which serve as the basis for the generative AI systems that have drawn interest worldwide. As per the agreement, Anthropic will utilize AWS as its “primary” cloud provider and develop, train, and implement AI models using Amazon’s proprietary chips.

Conclusion

Additionally, it would provide AWS users—mostly businesses—with access to models on Amazon’s Bedrock service.
