Apple Says That 700+ Employees, Including the Auto Team, Would be Let Off

05 April 2024 – With the recent cancellation of the Apple Car project and the reevaluation of the in-house Micro-LED display project, Apple has laid off around 700 workers. The layoffs became public following the company’s filing of WARN notifications in the state of California.

Layoffs impact Apple Car and even Siri initiatives. The layoffs impact recent news projects, as 9to5Mac saw in the most recent WARN report from the California Employment Development Department. For example, Apple is letting go of fifty-eight workers from one of its Santa Clara headquarters. This specific office belonged to LuxVue Technology, a 2014 acquisition by Apple that specialised in Micro-LED displays.

There have been reports in the last several months that Apple has abandoned its intention to create and manufacture its Micro-LED screens for the Apple Watch. According to a recent Bloomberg article, Apple abandoned the project because it “was difficult to produce in sufficient quantities” of the displays.

Conclusion

The office was in charge of assessing Siri’s user reactions and assisting the business in raising the accuracy of the platform. Apple at the time offered, if accepted, to move all impacted workers to offices in Austin, Texas.
