Boond Fragrances, founded in June 2021, introduces a collection of pure, natural fragrances meticulously crafted by artisans from Kannauj in Uttar Pradesh. These fragrances are made using the ancient Deg-Bhapka method used for centuries. Notably, Boond Fragrances has been honoured with the Geographical Indicator (GI) Tag by the Government of India, which certifies their authentic Kannauj Perfume.

Their fragrance range includes MAATI, capturing the aroma of the first rain on the arid ground; MOTIYA, evoking the scent of Jasmine that blooms during Indian summer nights; and KHUSA, offering a refreshing fragrance of Vetiver grass. Boond is committed to eco-conscious practices and ensures production and packaging are entirely chemical-free

Overview of the Founders

The creative people behind this venture are two siblings- Krati and Varun. Krati, a graduate of the Indian School of Business (ISB), brings more than ten years of experience as a senior executive in the corporate world. Alongside her problem-solving skills and leadership abilities, she is also a talented poet, screenwriter, and film producer. Through her travels for work, Krati discovered the remarkable art of Kannauj perfume—a craft that has thrived for centuries while remaining inherently sustainable.

Varun, an award-winning writer-director nationally, divides his time between his hometown Kannauj and Mumbai. His short film “Syaahi” received special recognition at the National Film Awards in 2016. He is deeply passionate about artistic and poetic and conveys profoundly humane stories through his work.

Growing up in a boarding school and later working in Mumbai, Varun always dreamt of returning to his roots in Kannauj. The lockdowns provided him and Krati with an opportunity to launch Boond—a tribute to their beloved city and its rich perfumery heritage.

During the lockdowns, Krati and her brother Varun decided to contribute to the legacy of Kannauj fragrances. Together, they founded Boond to revive the ancient art of Indian perfume-making, support local artisans, and introduce Indian fragrances to a global audience.
