Boston Dynamics Robot Receives a Major Improvement and Switches to Electricity

18 April 2024 – The most popular term for current technology developments is artificial intelligence (AI), but other trends go unnoticed. As an example, humanoid robots are making great progress even if they won’t soon replace blue-collar labour. The latest example is Boston Dynamics.

The robotics company located in Massachusetts said that Atlas, its main robot, is now electric. It also acquired a new body and improved mobility. The new bot seems sleeker than the old one, which is the first thing you’ll notice about it. The latter was covered in a story from 2023 Inquirer Tech.

The previous model featured a hefty, broad torso, bent legs, and hydraulic tubes sticking out of its limbs. The new one, on the other hand, is smaller and has a head that resembles a lens on a camera.

Conclusion

According to Boston Dynamics, the Atlas bot uses an electric motor in place of hydraulics. Because of this, it is much quieter than its noisy predecessor. But you’ll note that the robot can flex its body in ways that a person could not—it can turn your torso 180 degrees, for example. According to TechCrunch, building a humanoid robot does not need the devices to move exactly like people.
