Briefly Rejig: Azhar Iqubal Takes Over as Chairman

05 April 2025 – After serving as a Shark Tank judge and cofounder for 11 years, Azhar Iqubal resigned as CEO of the news aggregation website. In FY23, the startup’s net loss increased 33% YoY to INR 310 Cr, while operating revenue increased only 9% to INR 181 Cr.

Inshorts, which was founded in 2013 by Iqubal, Deepit Purkayastha, and Anunay Arunav, provides 60-word summaries of news from a variety of sources. News aggregator Inshorts has made a significant change by promoting current CEO and cofounder Azhar Iqubal to chairman. Deepit Purkayastha, a co-founder, has been elevated to the position of CEO of the business.

“Azhar has taken the lead throughout both highs and lows. Cofounder and incoming CEO Purkayastha remarked, “I thank Azhar on behalf of the company, and I feel honored to take on the role of CEO to lead the company through the next phase of growth.”


Conclusion

Purkayastha will lead the business into its next stage of expansion, the firm stated in a statement. Iqubal left his position as CEO after serving in that capacity for 11 years.
