Are you a sushi lover? Or someone who hasn’t tried it yet?
I have a surprise for you! Yes, a surprise and you can thank Chefling for this amazing innovation. We often think about trying out sushi but then again we come back into settling for our regular meals as it surely burns the pocket. Chefling is at rescue!
In an exciting episode of ‘Shark Tank India‘ Season 3, something amazing happened in the world of food – especially sushi! A cool startup created by the young and ambitious 25-year-old Rounit Gambhir from Mumbai has definitely grabbed our attention. Starting with just 150k, Chefling is bringing the DIY kit for sushi. It’s no longer an expensive and mouth watering food but is a ready to cook meal to serve your cravings today.
The sharks enjoyed the sushi and were really impressed with the ready to cook product offering such freshness and taste. The investors were not only impressed, but also offered an investment of Rs 40 lakh for a 16% share in their business. This all started during the 2020 lockdown when people were struggling to make fancy dishes at home, and Chefling came to the rescue.
The Cool Idea Behind Chefling
Chefling was born with a simple idea – to make it easy and fun for everyone in India to cook fancy meals, especially sushi. Rounit Gambhir, during the show, talked about breaking down the barriers that make it hard for people to try cooking different types of food. Chefling focuses on Japanese cuisine, and they provide DIY kits with all the ingredients you need for making sushi. Everything is measured and ready to turn into a delicious meal. Since they started in August 2020, Chefling has sold over 5,000 kits all over India, showing that more and more people want to try cooking exciting new dishes at home.
As Rounit explained his plan, he mentioned a big prediction: by 2025, the market for DIY sushi kits in India could be worth a whopping Rs 8,000 crore. This makes sense because the pandemic changed how people think about cooking, and many discovered the joy of making their own meals at home. Chefling, with its variety of sushi kits, is perfectly placed to ride this wave of change. The investment from ‘Shark Tank India,’ which includes well-known figures like Namita Thapar and Amit Jain, shows that the startup has a lot of potential to revolutionise how people cook and eat in Indian homes.
Rounit Gambhir inspiration:
Sharing about his journey, Rounit mentions how his father’s textile business was struck by fate, breaking it down in 2011. His father is his inspiration, Rounit’s calm composure to build something big and serve people makes him what he is today. He is a one man army and is leading with the support of his team.
The products are not only limited to sushi, he also delivers kits for Mexican tacos, Barbeques and many more. Amazingly, the sushi kit for two can make 35 sushis which is for 1299.
Well, I am totally in love, a typical sushi would cost around 400-500 rupees per plate. Definitely Chefling is a saver and is going to lead the sushi market in India.
Looking Forward to More Delicious Moments
Chefling’s journey from being a lockdown idea to a successful startup is not just a business story; it’s about bringing something new and exciting to our kitchens. Bhattacharya’s dream goes beyond just making money; he wants to make sushi a regular part of Indian meals. The support from ‘Shark Tank India’ not only gives Chefling the money it needs but also puts it in the spotlight in a tough market. As Chefling grows and offers more products, it becomes an example of how passion and good ideas can turn challenges into tasty opportunities.
With ‘Shark Tank India’ on their side, Chefling aims to make sushi cooking simple, affordable, and something everyone can enjoy. The startup, with the support of famous investors, is all set to change how millions of people cook and enjoy their meals.
