Cybercriminals In Telangana Have Private And Startup Workers As Their Primary Targets

16 April 2024 – Up to 242 farmers were victims of cybercrimes in the previous month, including loan fraud (41), gift fraud (49), identity fraud (48), and business and investment fraud (41). According to statistics released by the Telangana State Cyber Security Bureau (TSCSB), out of the 10,135 cybercrime instances that were recorded in Telangana in March 2024, approximately 4,272 (42.15%) victims were workers.

When impersonating or cheating, con artists pose as well-known companies, superior officials, or even fictitious customer service representatives in order to deceive unsuspecting people over the phone. Among the most notable scams in this category are package frauds, which have been popular in the past six months and include cybercriminals posing as executives of two of the largest international logistics and courier businesses, as well as customs officers.

This also covers credit and debit card fraud, in which victims are conned under the guise of Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AePS), reward points, PAN card linking, KYC updates, card banning, or even replacement.

Conclusion

On the other hand, scammers trick gullible investors into parting with large sums of money through phoney trading applications in business and investment scams. The most typical method involves adding the victim to a WhatsApp group and then giving an app link that allows the victim to invest, all under the guise of exchanging trading-related information.
