Recently, Zomato’s CEO, Deepinder Goyal, made headlines after Sharing a job vacancy for ‘Chief of Staff’ position on his X account. What caught everyone’s attention was that the selected candidate for this role would not receive any salary for a full year. Instead, the person would be required to pay a fee of 20 lakh rupees for the position.
Deepinder mentioned that this 20L is not a few to get the job but this whole amount will be donated to feeding India.
The post mentioned that the candidate must be “hungry, have a lot of common sense, empathy, should be down to earth, and have zero entitlement” followed by Grade A communication skills, a learning mindset, and will to do the right thing.
While the role demands versatility—requiring the candidate will work to shape Zomato’s future—it offers an unparalleled opportunity for growth, including the chance to work closely with CEO Goyal and collaborate with some of the brightest minds in consumer tech.
The job description also mentioned that the role isn’t to focused on just building a resume or financial benefits but is geared towards those individuals who are keen on learning and making a meaningful contribution to Zomato’s future, which includes its subsidiaries Blinkit, Hyperpure, and Feeding India.
Goyal claimed that this role would offer “10x more learnings than a 2-year degree from a top management school, working with me and some of the smartest folks in consumer tech”.
In the initial year, there won’t be a salary provided, but Zomato commits to donating Rs 50 lakh to a charity chosen by the candidate, which is equivalent to the typical salary for such a position.
After completing first year with zero salary, the chosen candidate will start receiving a competitive salary exceeding Rs 50 lakh annually.
How Deepinder’s post is criticized by netizens.
However, Deepinder’s intention behind the post was to donate a significant amount to combat hunger, but his message was not well-received on social media, and people criticized him for this post.
