India to Phase Out Petrol and Diesel Vehicles, Embrace Green Mobility: Gadkari

1 April 2024 – Union Minister Nitin Gadkari unveils ambitious plans to transition India towards a green economy by eliminating petrol and diesel vehicles entirely. With a vision to utilize fuel import funds for rural development and employment generation, Gadkari aims to revolutionize the automotive sector.

Nitin Gadkari envisions a future where India is free from over 36 crore petrol and diesel vehicles. Emphasizing the possibility of achieving this goal, Gadkari stresses the importance of utilizing fuel import funds for the betterment of farmers and rural communities.

While acknowledging the magnitude of the task, Gadkari remains undeterred, advocating for the promotion of biofuels and alternative energy sources. Proposals to reduce GST on hybrid vehicles and flex engines are underway, aimed at incentivizing eco-friendly transportation options.

Environmental activists applaud Gadkari’s commitment to green mobility but emphasize the need for a transition to renewable energy sources. Addressing concerns about fossil fuel reliance in electricity production, activists advocate for a shift towards 100% renewable energy to combat the climate crisis.

While refraining from specifying a timeline, Gadkari expresses confidence in the transition towards alternative fuels within the next five to seven years. He highlights the growing adoption of electric vehicles and flex engine technology by leading automotive manufacturers as a positive indicator of progress.

Gadkari highlights initiatives by prominent auto companies to introduce vehicles powered by hydrogen and bio-CNG, signaling a revolution in the automotive sector. With a focus on self-reliance and innovation, Gadkari envisions a future where India becomes a global leader in green mobility.
