Megha Engineering Won A Rs 14,400 Cr Mumbai Project After Buying A Rs 140 Cr Bond

23 March 2024 – Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Private Limited, which donated Rs 584 crores in electoral bonds to the BJP, purchased Rs 140 crore in April 2023, a month before receiving a Rs 14,400-crore Mumbai tunnel project, according to Election Commission data. 

India Today TV sources said that Mumbai’s municipal council penalized the corporation for delays in another unrelated project. Megha Engineering (MEIL), a leading electoral bond buyer from Hyderabad, gave Rs 966 crore using electoral bonds. 

About 60% of its contributions went to the BJP. In 2023, the business was awarded the Rs 14,400 crore Thane-Borivali twin tunnel project beneath the Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) in Mumbai. MEIL bought Rs 140 crore electoral bonds a month before winning the contract. 


Conclusion

In addition to the BJP, the firm bought Rs 195 crores in electoral bonds for the Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) and holds several Telangana government engineering contracts. Through electoral bonds, MEIL gave Rs 85 crore to the DMK in Tamil Nadu, Rs 37 crore to the YSR Congress Party in Andhra Pradesh, Rs 28 crore to the TDP, and Rs 5 crore to the Janata Dal (S).
