Millions of Tonnes of Cardboard Boxes Are To Be Converted Into Insulation by Cleanfiber

13 April 2024 – For decades, building material businesses have been using old newspapers to shred them in order to generate cellulose insulation. However, the cellulose insulation sector has been forced to chase after diminishing raw material sources as newspaper sales have dropped. Another paper product that is becoming more popular is corrugated cardboard, which is a result of the scarcity of old newspapers.

A growing number of people are shopping online, and the quantity of cardboard boxes produced has been rising significantly. Up to 50 million tonnes of the material end up in recycling and garbage bins each year.

The industry’s shortage of insulation may appear to be solved by cardboard, but there’s a catch: corrugated boxes are contaminated with metal staples, plastic tape, and shipping labels, among other things. They are significantly more difficult to convert into insulation than newspapers ever were. However, CleanFiber, a company, foresaw the change and has been tackling the issue for years.

Conclusion

Thus far, CleanFiber has generated enough insulation to fill over twenty thousand single-family houses. However, if the firm was to grow beyond its first plant in Buffalo, New York, CEO Jonathan Strimling realized it would have to do more than survive as an afterthought.
