20 March 2024 – Satya Nadella, the chairman and CEO of Microsoft, greeted Mustafa Suleyman warmly upon taking over as CEO of the tech company’s artificial intelligence (AI) initiative. With Suleyman leading the development of consumer AI products and research activities, including renowned platforms like Copilot, Bing, and Edge, Microsoft AI has made a major stride with his hiring.
“Welcome to Microsoft,” Nadella said, expressing his joy and taking to X. I’m thrilled to have you in charge of Microsoft AI as we create widely loved and useful consumer AI products like Copilot.” Suleyman was the co-founder and head of applied AI at DeepMind, a well-known AI company that Google eventually purchased before coming to Microsoft. After working there for a while, he decided to start Inflection AI in 2022, a machine learning and generative AI startup.
Along with sharing his thoughts on the shift, Suleyman spoke to his fans on X, announcing Karen Simonyan’s appointment as Chief Scientist and thanking his loyal team members for choosing to travel this path with him.
