This Organisation Demanded A WFH Day And Then Used A Remote Call To Fire 400 Workers

26 March 2024 – Over 400 jobs have been cut by the Italian-American carmaker Stellantis in its US engineering, software, and technology departments. What has sparked concerns is the way the layoffs were implemented. On Friday, March 22, Stellantis demanded that employees be required to work remotely, according to Fortune magazine. The automaker sent out a warning to staff on Thursday, stating, “We will be holding important operational meetings that require specific attention and participation.”

The notification stated, “We have decided to implement a mandatory remote work day to ensure everyone can participate effectively.” A mechanical engineer who was let go during the conversation told Fox News, “It was a mass firing of everybody that was on the call.”

The engineer, who wished to remain anonymous, said that Stellantis outsources work to Brazil, Mexico, and India. He said, “Therefore, they keep pushing low-cost nations that are more profitable and efficient for the company.”

Conclusion

The carmaker, which owns the Jeep and Chrysler brands, informed the Wall Street Journal that employees who were let go had been provided a complete package of benefits and help throughout their transition.
