In recent years, Uttar Pradesh has risen up as a significant player in India startup ecosystem. With the tremendous support from the government and outstanding schemes and availability of rich resources, Uttar Pradesh has now become a favorable destination for innovation and startups.
The state now has about 12,000 registered startups, with 5,000 of them are run by women.
Recently, at the opening of the Bharat Startup Festival (Noida Edition), an event organized by the Bharat Startup and Innovation Society (BSIS) to promote innovation and entrepreneurship, Uttar Pradesh’s Electronics and IT Minister, Saunil Kumar Sharma who was the chief guest there stated, “Uttar Pradesh has the Best Start up Ecosystem in the country”
Awinash Awasthi who is the chief advisor of the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh added to this that Uttar Pradesh is on the track to become a 1 trillion dollar economy soon. He pointed out that both start up and tourism are at a remarkable growth rate of 40% in Uttar Pradesh.
Bharat start-up Yatra
Bharat startup Yatra is a nationwide initiative by the government to promote and uplift entrepreneurship and startup ecosystem in India. Under this scheme the startup India mobile van is launched, which will travel across different states and motivate people to bring out their ideas for startups and there ideas will be recorded through an app.It’s main focus is on engaging with big industrial leaders, accelerate funding and build networks.

No doubt that Uttar Pradesh has become a hub for startups and it has given many successful ventures to the nation.
Meesho
Founded in 2015, by Vidit Aatrey and Sanjeev Barnwal, meesho is a successful commercial platform that sell various products and it has seen a rapid growth in past few years specially in tier 2 and 3 cities.
It was originated in Lucknow and has a network of $5 billion(2023).
Cashify
Cashify is another successful ventures from Uttar Pradesh which sells and buy electronic gadgets. It was founded in 2013 in Noida by Mandeep Manocha, Nakul Kumar and Amit Sethiit has a network of around $5 billion (2023).
Smytten
Smytten is a premium beauty and cosmetic sampling product platform. It was founded by Swagat Sarangi and Siddhartha Nangia in 2015 in Noida.
Ola electric R&D hub in UP
The Greater Noida hub by the Ola electric, it focuses on electric vehicle and battery innovation. Ola is investing USD 500 million for the setup of the battery innovation centre.
Schemes to promote startups in India
Make In India
On 25 September 2014, the Prime Minister of India Mr. Narendra Modi launched Make In India scheme. This scheme was launched to boost the manufacturing condition in India and make India a self reliant nation.
Start-up India Scheme
On 16th January 2016, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, GOI, launched the Startup India Scheme to promotestartups and internal trade in India by providing them financial assistance.
Atal Innovation Mission
Similarly AtalIn novation Mission was launched in 2016 by Niti Aayog, which aims to promote culture and innovation and entrepreneurship in India. Today Uttar Pradesh is leading the way for nation’s startup boom and hopefully it will continue to be at the forefront of India’s entrepreneurial revolution. UP is no doubt all set to be the epicenter of India’s start-up revolution.
