Narayana Murthy

Today, we will try to dive deep into Narayana Murthy’s story and glance over his life and career that assured him very deserved success. Born on 20th August 1946, Narayana Murthy hails from a humble background and was born into a middle-class Hindu family. Murthy’s father was a schoolteacher in Mysore. He came from a low-income household and was the fifth of eight children.

Murthy worked as a research associate at IIM Ahmedabad. His major role was that of a chief system programmer. He worked on the computer that was used to construct the Electronics Corporation of India’s BASIC interpreter.

Later, Murthy also applied at Wipro where he was eventually turned down by the founder, Azim Premji. Murthy founded Softronics, a software consulting firm that failed miserably. Narayana was very adamant about his free will, even though Sudha’s father had stipulated that he needed to be settled down with a respectable profession to receive his blessings.

He later joined Patni Computer Systems in Pune as a general manager. Seeing Murthy securing a job, Sudha’s father agreed to give her daughter’s hand in marriage to him. He made sure to marry Sudha before joining the company. This was also motivated by his desire to consummate the marriage before traveling to the US for training.
